Gasprom tops 28 Russian companies in Forbes Global 2000 list

Twenty eight major Russian companies have made it to the ranking of the top 2000 public companies in the world by compiled annually by the Forbes magazine, RIA Novosti reports. Gasprom led the national list ranking 13 in the global list.
In the front rank of the leading Russian companies making it to the Forbes list, are Rosneft ranking 64, Lykoil - 76, Surgutneftegas - 168, Sberbank - 172, Norilskiy Nikel – 241, Severstal - 450, VTB - 550, Tatneft -548 to name a few.
Forbes has launched its Global 2000 list, ranking the world’s biggest and most profitable companies by sales, profits, assets and market value.
According to Forbes, Gasprom’s annual sales total 97.29 billion dollars, with its profits amounting to 26.78 billion dollars and assets hitting 276.81 billion dollars. Gasprom’s market value is assessed by Forbes as $74.55 billion.
“Even a depression is a place for opportunity if you have cash, scale and ambition, “ the Forbes claims on its website.
According to Forbes, all Global 2,000 companies have combined revenue of 32 trillion dollars, 1.6 trillion dollars in profit, 125 trillion dollars in assets and 20 trillion dollars in market capitalisation.
Net income of the Global 2000 companies fell to $1.63 trillion, a decline of 30.9 percent from the $2.36 trillion in 2008 and market value dropped 49.3 percent to $19.6 trillion at the same time.
However, even with global slump in the world economy, with major industrial companies and reducing their combined revenues by 31 per cent, raw materials and financial markets’ leaders still retain their positions.
Overall, the list is topped by industrial conglomerate General Electric (its sales estimated at 182.52 billion dollars, profits at 17.4 billion dollars, assests at 797.77 billion dollars and maket value reaching 89.87 billion dollars), followed by Dutch oil and gas major Royal Dutch Shell, Japan's Toyota Motor, ExxonMobil and UK's BP at in that order.
The rankings this year span 62 countries and regions, with more coming from developing countries like India, which has 47 entries.
Even Kazakhstan is now a Global 2000 member. Also gaining a significant presence on the list are corporations from Arab countries: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates each have at least 10 entries in this year's list.
The Forbes Global 2000 list is a rival to the more established Fortune 500 list, which is based only on revenues.
