Police investigating the shooting at the Baku Oil Academy, where an armed man killed seventeen and wounded ten people on Thursday, have arrested a kebab seller on suspicion of being the murderer’s accomplice.

Reports on the number of criminals vary. Some witnesses say that Farda Gadirov, who shot himself when the police arrived to detain him, acted alone, but others said there were two attackers.

Nadir Shirkhan Aliyev, who owns a kebab stand next to the Oil Academy, admitted he knew the killer, as they come from the same village, Interfax reports Monday. The link prompted the police to arrest Aliyev and charge him with being Gadirov’s accomplice in the crime.

On April 30, Farda Gadirov, a 29-year-old ethnic Azerbaijani with a Georgian passport, opened fire in the Azerbaijan Oil Academy, the country’s most prestigious school. The motives for his actions remain unclear.
