A Russian teenager has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment for killing his father, after he tried to stop him from constantly playing computer games.

A court in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurtia Republic in Central Russia, found the 17-year-old guilty of premeditated murder, Russian press said Friday.

The tragedy happened in the spring of 2008 in a well-off local family.

The boy had finished school and was driving his parents crazy by refusing to continue his studies or get a job. Instead, he would stay at home and play computer games.

After numerous attempts to distract the young man from the computer, the father took the machine and locked it in the parental bedroom.

However,  when he came home in the evening he found his son had broken up the door and was playing as usual.

When the father started expressing his indignation, the teenager grabbed the knife he had placed beside the computer and stabbed his father in the chest several times.

The victim died on the spot. The police promptly detained the boy, who soon confessed to the murder.

A psychiatric expert found the teenager mentally capable, and he was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
