Local authorities in the Kemerovo Region of  Siberia have decided to purchase a cow and four tons of hay for each family with three or more children living in the country, RIA Novosti news agency reported Wednesday. This action is expected to help large families scrape through the hard crisis times.

Starting from May 1, Kemerovo Region authorities are beginning a new support program for large families living outside cities, in villages or suburbs, the regional administration’s spokesman told the agency. Altogether, the region has 5,900 such families, he said.

“For that, the region’s budget will allocate 30,000 rubles (approximately $830) for each of such families monthly, from May 1 and up to the beginning of the pasture season,” he added.

According to the region’s governor Aman Tuleyev, the action aims to support large and poor families in the difficult economic situation they are facing.
